This : This sounds like a case gastritis and/or ulcers. The burning pain is from the excess acid produced in the stomach, esecially after a spicy meal, acidic food intake, chocolate, and caffeine as well. The pain with bowel movements may be due to hemorrhoids. Your husband needs to see his primary care provider sooner rather than later for a complete work up of his problems and treatment. In the meantime, he should avoid the above mentioned foods, take an over the counter anti-acid like Pepcid (famotidine) or prilosec, and slowly add fiber to his diet and drink plenty of water. Best of luck.
