The : The silicone implants used for chin augmentation are solid with no liquid component to rupture. This type of material has a long history of safe use as an implant. There are other materials that implants are made out of including gortex, mersilene, and medpore.

Sliding : Sliding osteotomy may work quite well, give long term stability and avoid placing a foreign material in the chin which can have complications. A genioplasty using a cut through the chin to move it forward is an excellent way to augment a weak chin.

There : There are alternative materials used in chin implants, but I have successfully used silicone chin implants without any significant problems for over 35 years. These implants are made of solid silicone, not the gels that are used with some rare significant problems in breast surgery. Results are predictable and permanent.
