Obstructive : Obstructive sleep apnea can definitely cause tension-type headaches - your family member has a good point! i attached a site that talks about many headache disorders being caused or worsening sleep disorders. You should give you doctor a call to discuss your sleep habits. It may also be helpful to keep a sleep diary and ask family members who are around you when you sleep if you actually stop breathing while you are asleep. This information can be very helpful, in determining whether you have sleep apnea and whether it is effecting/causing your headaches. Good luck!

Get checked: Headaches can be due to numerous causes. Sleep disorders can be a common cause. If you have severe headaches upon waking up, or if headaches wake you up in the middle of the night, then you may want to go to a neurologist for a full evaluation.
