Yes: Yes, Metronidazole (flagyl) is safe and it is the preferred treatment for bacterial vaginosis (bv) while pregnant. Years ago, lab studies suggested that Flagyl could cause genetic mutations. However, this has not been shown to be in true in living, breathing humans. Flagyl is also acceptable while breast feeding.
