Its : Its hard to know exactly what you're referring to, but one thing that can cause intermittent facial swelling and pain like this is inflammation or blockage of salivary glands. Your dentist should be able to recognize this when it happens, but you might also consider seeing a head and neck surgeon (ent).

Root canal problem: Appears you have a tooth causing the pain. Have your dentist , and even better an endodontist evaluate and treat.
