What can i do to stop diarrhea i have been having diarrhea for almost a year straight. some days i'm fine but more so not. before this i was often constipated and have never had this proble. i was diagnosed with herpes 8 months ago, does that have anythin

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Herpes : Herpes does not cause diarrhea, however certain drugs used to treat herpes may (i.e. Acyclovir, valtrex). You should discuss this possibility with your doctor. On the other hand, you may have developed lactose intolerance. This occurs when your body is deficient in an ezyme (lactase) which breaks down dairy products. If you have this problem then diarrhea will be present. Try eliminating all dairy from your diet for two weeks and monitor for any improvement. If that fails try a gluten free diet for two weeks. Finally, if the above do not prove to be the cause of your diarrhea see your doctor for a complete work up. Best of luck.
