A member asked:

My top left bottocks is swollen and hurting what can it be? this is the third time that it has happend to me it goes away i ice it foe a week but is painflull

A doctor has provided 1 answer

This : This is likely an inflammatory process and/or infectious process as well. Does it occur after exercise? If so it may be musculoskeletal/inflammatory in nature which is why it responds to ice. Ibuprofen or advil (ibuprofen) will also help. If the area is ever red, swollen, tender, and warm to the touch it may be cellulitis (bacterial skin infection) and requires a medical visit for antibiotic treatment. Take care.
