I : I hate to be alarmist, but your symptoms are concerning enough that i strongly recommend you get yourself to a doctor or emergency room right away. I do not think you should wait on this one or take advice from a web page in this case.

Impossible to say: Your doctor seems to think, if s/he has rx'd xanax (alprazolam) for your complaints, that it may be a panic attack. Depending on your age, risk factors for heart disease (smoking, family history, cholesterol) further testing to find the exact cause may be indicated. If these occur regularly, ssri-type antidepressants are better medications to help prevent further attacks, and have less addictive potential.
