Maple : Maple syrup urine disease is an inherited disorder of metabolism where people are unable to break down the branched-chain amino acids: leucine, isoleucine and valine. These are the three Amino Acids that build-up in high levels in the blood. The exact numbers for abnormal levels depend completely on the lab running the test. In one lab, anything over 10 might be abnormal where in another lab anything over 150 would be abnormal depending on how they run the test and the units used for each value. The exact numbers are not important - just knowing which Amino Acids are too high is the goal.
