Most : Most likely you have either seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis of the scalp. Options include shampoos such as coal tar, salicylic acid, ketoconazole (nizoral), selsun blue, and head and shoulders. There are also prescription shampoos that work fairly well that contain steroids or sulfur medications as well as topical lotions and foams that contain steroids. In addition, prescription oil treatments can help some patients. Some of my patients also get treated with small injections of steroid into persistent areas. I would recommend an evaluation to discuss options. I hope that helps.
