Was : Was your period late or early? From the text it appeared early. An infection is a possibility though not a common cause of irregular bleeding. Irregular ovulation is a more likely cause. If you develop fever and lower abdominal pain infection becomes more likely.

Don;t know if this: was normal in amount of blood. Brown blood is usually old blood being cleaned from the uterus. If this is scant blood it might not be your period. If that is the case and you have been sexually active, may wish to take a home pregnancy test.
