If your doctor is concerned about a methicillin-resistant staph (MRSA) infection, then another topical ointment that can be effective is bactroban (mupirocin). If your doctor is concerned about another specific bacteria based on how your rash looks or any testing they may have done, there may be other medication options. Give your doctor a call and discuss your concerns. See your physician: You don't describe your rash, and even then i would be hard-pressed to make any meaningful comments without a full history and actual looking at the rash. Ask your physician if it is absolutely necessary to fill the particular prescription or see a dermatologist (skin doctor).
