If : If this has been going on for a year with no relief from the medications given, then it is time for some diagnostic testing an possibly a consult from a specialist. It sounds like your son needs a chest x-ray to start, and maybe even a ct scan. Also, consider a consult with a pulmonologist (lung doctor) and a allergist as well. I hope you find answers soon.

I agree with Dr. Jackson. Barky cough can also be related to throat area and direct visualization by an ENT doctor may be helpful. Stomach acid reflux is another possibility that can be investigated.
