A member asked:

My wife has an ear ache and she is 32 weeks pregnant. is there anything we can do for the pain until she sees her doctor tomorrow?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

She's : She's probably seen her doctor by now, so this answer may be a little late. For future reference, however, unless directed by her ob/gyne, it is not safe for a woman to take an over-the-counter pain medication in the NSAID family (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug). These medications can affect the blood flow in the baby's heart, so are not recommended. The list includes ibuprofen, motrin, advil, Naproxen and Aleve or anyhting that contains these. Unfortunately, during pregnancy, tylenol (acetaminophen) is really the only over the counter pain reliever she can take.
