This : This test is done by inserting very small needles or electrodes in specific points in your extremities. It's a very helpful test to determine if you have a neurological problem, like carpal tunnel syndrome or any other peripheral neuropathy. It's also helpful in diagnosing more central neurological problem, like herniated disks. It works by measuring how fast a very small electrical impulse travels through you nerve - if it's to slow or to fast you might have a problem. I would look for a neurologist for this test. Good luck!

Many : Many people experience what you did so you are not along. Having said that there are some people who don't mind it at all. As with most things everyone is different. What you should know is that there are two major components to the nerve test: the ncv and emg. If the shocks are just too unpleasant, you can at least have the part of the nerve test where you won't feel anything unpleasant. It's not ideal because some information will be lacking, but at least better than nothing. Best of luck.
