Their : Their symptoms seem seasonal, a barking cough worse at night, it sounds very much like a form of allergies and asthma. Singulair, (montelukast) pulmicort, albuterol seem very appropriate tratment. You might try a hepa room sized air purifier in their bedrooms at night. It also seems appropriate to have them see a good allergist. They might benefit from knowing what they are allergic to and might benefit from immunotherapy(allergy shots). Best wishes.

How old?: Should certainly be tested for asthma, but sometimes vocal cord dysfunction can be confused for asthma and will not get better with asthma therapy. Would see an allergist or pulmonologist and ask them about it.
