Gout : Gout is caused by too much uric acid in the body. There are over producers(generate too much uric acid) and under excreters( those who do not effectively eliminate their uric acid into the urine). Cause of gout: genetics(if your parents have gout, then you have about a 20% chance of developing it) gender(men first develop gout at an earlier age than women) nutrition (alcoholism, obesity) other factors: african americans are more likely to have gout than other populations. Intake of alcoholic beverages, especially beer, increases the risk for gout. Red meats increases the risk for gout.

High uric acid: Gout is caused by high serum uric acid. You should see your doctor to have check up. It is not related to high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
