Yes: Dystonia can certainly be used to treat medically refractory/intractable cases of dystonia. It depends to some extent on the etiology of the dystonia. Dystonia is caused by an aberrancy in the motor pathway in the brain. Deep brain stimulation may be used as treatment. An electrode(s) connected to a battery is placed into a component of this pathway (often the globus pallidus).
