A : A boil also known as a skin abscess is caused by a bacterial infection that starts in a hair follicle or sweat gland. Initially the skin turns red, and a painful bump develops. After about a week the lump starts to turn white as pus collects under the skin. If the boil is pretty small, like the size of a green pea, you can use warm compresses, and apply topical neosporin. If this does not work or it gets bigger then you need antibiotics. These can be prescribed by your doctor. If antibiotics don't work then something called an I&D (incision and drainage) may be done. Good luck.

Boils: It depends on where they are. They can come from bacterial that is regularly on your skin or from immune deficiencies
