Depends: Most people who "pass out" from drinking are asleep. They can be awakened with a loud noise, or shaking them, but they will fall back to sleep. Officially, this is called "stupor." coma is when you don't wake up with any kind of stimulation, even painful ones. In people who drink beyond stupor, they can achieve alcohol poisoning with coma and death. This happens mostly when people chug liquor.
