When : When you stated first 20 years without contro, l what exactly do you mean? Were you taking Insulin on and off and your diabetes was out of control or were you not taking it at all or only in spurts? Now that you are better controlled i'm assuming your blood sugsr has improved due to compliance with Insulin and diet, and medical follow up. What complications are you referring to exactly? You have to remember that common complications in diabetics (retinopathy, microvascular disease, neuropathies etc.) take time to develop, and get worse over time due to high amounts of glucose in your blood. Since you have had diabetes your whole life, you have to assume that these effects are a result of your twenty plus years of uncontrolled diabetes. I think that probably in the past you were not seeing a doctor regularly, and now that you are controlled, that leads me to believe that you are following up on a regular basis with your provider, and with follow up comes more screening and testing that can reveal problems that have likely been brewing for a long time. Keep up the good work with controlling your diabetes. There are treatment options for diabetes related complications. Good luck.
