Stabbing : Stabbing chest pain is something serious and should not be taken lightly. The fact that you are a smoker puts you at an increased risk of heart disease, which could be the cause of this pain. There are other factors in addition to smoking like obesity, high cholesterol, and a positive family history that could increase your risk. On the other hand it could be something as simple as indigestion or heartburn. Regardless you should be evaluated by your doctor asap. A much more detailed history of this problem, examination, and testing will hopefully lead to a swift diagnosis and treatment. Good luck.

Impossible to say: You need to talk about your symptoms with your health care provider and have testing done to determine the cause of the pain. If it is from your heart, your lungs or your GI tract, smoking makes it much worse and may actually be the cause. It is a good time to quit. Your doctor can help you with that as well.
