The : The product includes two components. The purpose of the first component is to smoothly "carry" the second active component into the tissue. It is composed of bovine collagen and it will degrade over a month's time. The second component is the pmma, which has been around for well-over 50 years as part of implantable medical devices. It is inert, but the body "responds" to its presence by stimulated tissue growth. So, over four months’ time you actually will have your volume loss filled in by your own tissue. Since the pmma is not dissolved, and since your own tissue it compatible, the volume is a long-term filling. And yes it is high tech in this way: the older version of pmma were particles of random size and shape. If you view this newest generation of pmma under a super high-powered microscope (the particles are about the size of a white blood cell), it would appear very smooth and of uniform size. The creation of this high-tech uniformity is what makes it so predictable as a product. Anywhere on your face? I do place it conservatively to help smooth any undesired facial wrinkle, but its best use is to volumize regions of the face that have lost fullness. This restores proper proportions and smooths out wrinkles. Recently we have stopped using needles to place artefill and other fillers. The new "soft-tip" or blunt cannulas make for a comfortable and (for most) bruise-free experience!

Volumization: Fillers work in different ways, but the all have the capacity to volumize. Artefill is a permanent filler that if placed correctly may help some of the deep wrinkles and contour of the face. However it is important to emphasize that this filler is permanent. A thinner filler (restylane/juvederm) may be better suited for wrinkles and smile lines.

Aretfill : Aretfill can work well in the nasolabial fold and although the product can last a long time, the cause of the fold is the descent of the cheek tissues and skin over the fold. Placing any filler, even artefill into the fold will not stop the descent of the tissues and therefore it will not correct the nasolabial fold long term.

Every : Every physician has their own preferences using the many available fillers. The advantage of artefill is that it is permanent. By adding volume to the face it will improve wrinkles but i would rather use products like the hyaluronic acids around the lips and the margins of the eyelids.
