A member asked:

Is there any link between vasectomies and prostate cancer? just curious if there is any research or studies that suggest a link between vasectomies and prostate cancer (or any other disease for that matter).

Vasectomies : Vasectomies do not cause prostate cancer. There were several studies that come out that were confusing because it showed that more men with vasectomies were ultimately diagnosed with prostate cancer, but further studies showed that there was "study bias", which means that the study was flawed. The explanation was that men who had vasectomies had a medical relationship with a urologist and were more likely to access care and get their prostate cancers diagnosed. But ultimately it was found that prostate cancer is equal in men with vasectomies and without; vasectomies do not cause prostate cancer. Genetics (family history), fatty diet, obesity, and hormonal causes contribute as causes of prostate cancer.

See below: Harvard study:high grade prostate ca:19 cases in every 1000 men who had vasectomy versus 16 per 1000 who did not have vasectomy. No diff.in low grade pr.ca.Reason uncertain but could be from development of immunological changes, hormone imbalance or unknown. As with many things in life, absolute guarantees of perfection is unrealistic. If you do not want more children, vasectomy is a very good option.
