It : It depends upon the cause of your sciatic nerve problem. The most common reason is lumbar spine disease in which case it would depend upon the level of dysfunction. If the cause is structural within the nerve (i.e. Compression within the sciatic notch) then a neurosurgeon woudl be the best professional. If this is a case of typical "sciatica" then a physical therapist, chirpractor or accupuncturist would be appropriate as first line treatment. I hope you feel better.

Options: Dr mccare provided an excellent response. I agree that you need input from your neurosurgeon or orthopedic spine specialist about appropriate treatment options. Sciatica is often treated with acupuncture to decrease pain & inflammation. A combination of treatments sometimes provides the most superior results.
