Why would my doctor order a tox screen? i went to the doctor because i've been feeling really weak for the last week, and my doctor told me that she wanted to do a tox screen. i've never had one done, and she didn't really tell me why. what is she looking

Toxicology : Toxicology screen usually tests for : alcohol amphetamines barbiturates benzodiazepines cocaine codeine heroin hydromorphone methadone morphine phencyclidine (pcp) propoxyphene tetrahydrocannabinol (thc)/marijuana a doctor usually performs this test in order to diagnose possible accidental or intentional overdose, poisoning, or exposure. As a patient you are entitled to answers and explanations from your doctor. If you are unsure why this test was done, then you need to ask. I'm sure your doctor will be more than happy to explain.

Tox Screen: She is doing this to try and Identify if there is any particular toxin you are exposed to the may be contributing to the illness you are experiencing .
