You : You could have a bacterial infection. While all periods have a somewhat foul odor, any major changes in odor should be assessed by a doctor, as an infection may be the reason. Per your medical history, it is crucial you have a a regular check up to see if the infection has anything to do with your preexisting fibroids or cysts. Old menstrual blood and uterine lining discharge also tend to have a more pungent odor when being expelled, as well. At times, some women do not eliminate all fluids during their previous period. See a doctor to investigate. Also not if this is accompanied by any abdominal or pelvic cramping.

It could be old : Blood or infection. If only during your period could be old blood or dead tissue being sloughed off from a fibroid that could be in your cavity. This is less likely. While it may be embarrassing, speak to your obgyn about this. You should be evaluated by pelvic exam as there are many causes of foul smelling odor.
