If : If stitches were placed during the operation, these are typically removed after 2 weeks, provided they are not designed to be absorbed. A follow up appointment is typically scheduled about one month after the operation to check status. However as part of your home care instructions, directions should have been provided to advise when to seek medical attention. For example, see the doctor if the patient is experiencing severe pain, if there is a lot of drainage coming from the wound, or if the wound is requiring more dressing changes than prescribed. Also, if the patient is experiencing any signs of infection such as swelling, warmth to the site or if the wounds don't seem to be healing, call your doctor.

Follow instructions: I am sure that your surgeon would want follow up in 2 weeks or less. You should also maintain regular contact with your primary care provider to control your diabetes and hopefully prevent any more amputations.
