1750 : 1750 probably goes back about 8 or 9 generations for you. Few people know their family history that far back! that means that you only share between 0.1%-0.3% of the same genetic material which is completely negligable. There should not be any more risk for genetic disease in your children than anyone in the general population. (by the way, first cousin marriages are legal in 20 states and second cousins marriages are legal in all states.) legal disclaimer: I am providing this general and basic information as a public service and my response to this question does not constitute a doctor-patient relationship. Go for it: We all share some common ancestry if we go back far enough. A common ancestor that far back will have no effect on your current makeup or the chance you would have three eyed 6 fingered offspring or any other defect you would worry about. If the relationship works for you, persue it & enjoy your life.
