Takes some time: The prostate gland is hard to reach by antibiotics so it takes some time to treat these infections.

Spongy: The glandular nature (very spongy) of this part of anatomy allows for bacteria to "hide out" in areas that takes more time for antibiotics to reach it. I would liken it to trying to exterminate termites in a piece of wood with a lot of holes and tunnels in it.
