That is the nature of chronic prostatitis - symptoms may come and go with flare ups.

Some prostate symptoms are not infectious but represent congestion within the gland. True infections are much more symptomatic and are usually treated with antibiotics. These infections are sometimes incompletely treated and symptoms recur.
