Yes: A TURP is an excellent procedure for an enlarged prostate and difficulty with urination. A rare complication of the procedure includes urinary incontinence after the procedure which is usually temporary but may be permanent.

Other BPH Options: While a TURP (transurethral resection of the prostate) remains an excellent option for bph, there are several other surgical therapies. They are less likely to have side effects more common in turp, such as incontinence, impotence, retrograde ejaculation, or TUR syndrome (absorbing too much fluid during surgery). If medications fail or are intolerable, ask your urologist about tumt, tuna or gyrus.
