If : If your period is late and there is any chance that you are pregnant, please get a pregnancy test. There are certain conditions that can cause a missed period or heavy periods, such as dysfunctional uterine bleeding, or endocrine problems such as thyroid problems. If you are having irregular periods on a consistent basis, you should have a gynecology doctor see you for an evaluation. If you develop abdominal pain, vomiting, or very heavy bleeding then you must be seen as an emergency.
