The : The simplest way to reduce the tonsil swelling is oral hygiene. Make sure you chew your food thoroughly and use plenty of water to drink in between solid bites in order to flush everything down. Gargling with saline, ideally right after a meal, can also reduce any residue in the back of the throat. If a bacterial infection is suspeceted, an antibiotic may be necessary. Otherwise, some doctors use a short course of cortisone to (temporarily) reduce the size of the tonsils.

Free clinic?: Tonsillar swelling may be a result of an active infection, and if that is the case antibiotics may be needed (if bacterial in origin). Fever? See if there is a free clinic nearby to seek help. Meanwhile, gargle with warm salt water for some relief. See an md, and good luck!
