Echocardiography, : Echocardiography, an ultrasound of your heart, is the gold standard for evaluating murmurs. A murmur is nothing more than turbulent blood flow through the heart and can be caused by a variety of things, ranging from abnormal heart valves to holes in the heart, to abnormalities with the heart muscle itself. An echocardiogram ("echo") can evaluate all of these items at once, and does so without radiation, is non-invasive, and as medical tests go these days, is relatively cheap.
