What does "blowout fracture" of the eye mean?

Needs surgery: Fracture of the bones of the orbit (eye socket), usually downward into the maxillary sinus (cheek). Usually needs to be fixed surgically.

The bony walls break: The orbital contents are contained within a space called the orbital cavity. The space is lined by bone. The part of the cavity near the nose is called the medial orbital wall. The part of the cavity at the bottom is called the orbital floor. When pressure builds up rapidly in the orbit (such as getting punched) the medial wall and/or the orbital floor rupture outwards or "blow out.".
