Over : Over half of women can have irregular bleeding when starting the birth control pill. After 3 to 6 months your bleeding should match whatever pill schedule you have chosen. So when you start the pill you should stick with the schedule and usually unscheduled bleeding stops with time. The pill hormones take over and suppress your natural cycle to block ovulation and prevent pregnancy. But this can take time. You should also make sure there is no risk you could be pregnant or have an infection or cancer, as bleeding can be a sign of those problems, but likely if the irregular bleeding only started with the pill it is because of the hormone changes. Last, you are using a pill recipe that changes the hormone dose each week (4 colors in your package right) and that can make irregular bleeding worse when starting the pill. Using pills with all one set dose are better at preventing irregular bleeding but with time your pill should work.

Irregular periods: Birth control pills are good at regulating cycles. When you go off, they may become irregular. Consider possible pregnancy as always. See a gyn if it doesn't straighten out again after the first pack is finished.
