No: Tonsil surgery does not take away your taste buds. Some people after tonsil surgery will have a transient alteration of taste. This usually recovers with tinture of time.

Some: There are some minor salivary glands on the palate that can be removed with tonsillectomy. Also tonsillectomy mouth guard can cause tongue pressure and transmitted issues though the hypoglossal and lingual nerve.
