Fungal?: The most common cause would be a fungal infection, commonly known as "jock itch." fungus like warm dark moist places. He can try an over the counter fungal cream, such as lotrimin (clotrimazole) or lamasil (generic is available). If it doesn't improve, he will need to see his doctor for testing.

Lymphangitis: This is inflammation or infection of the lymphatic channels which course in that area. It could be secondary to an anal fissure or infection. Treatment consists of oral antibiotics and prevention of constipation. If the symptoms persist, it is suggested that you see your doctor. There is no reason to be embarassed because your boy had not done anything wrong.
