See your doctor: The treatment options for occluded vertebral arteries are not as well defined as those for carotid artery stenosis. That said, there is a possibility of vertebral artery angioplasty, but your doctor will better be able to assess the risks and benefits after determining the degree of occlusion of the artery.

Usually none.: Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) is the usual cause. Make certain blood pressure is at a good level (less than 140 systolic). Don't smoke! get your cholesterol checked and start statin type medication to drive LDL (bad cholesterol) below 70. If you have diabetes make certain it is well controlled (a1c below 7).
