Sunscreen.: Start by applying a good, broad-spectrum sunscreen every morning, whether you plan on going out in the sun or not. If you do go out in the sun, reapply sunscreen every couple of hours. Avoid any deliberate sunbathing. If you do this diligently, your skin will become light again.
