Can kidney function recover once dialysis is started?

Sometimes.: In acute renal failure, especially caused by hemolytic-uremic syndrome or trauma, temporary dialysis can allow kidneys time to recover.

It depends: Depends on the reason the patie t needed to be started on dialysis. Acute renal failure potentially can be recovered from, in which case dialysis is supportive. Chronic renal failure does not improve with dialysis.
