A member asked:

What are the differences and similarities between kidney dialysis and in-vivo kidney functions?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not the same: Dialysis removes about 80% of the impurities that build up, but not all of them as would a normal kidney. The kidney is more of a selective filter. The normal kidney also produces hormones--small molecules, that aid in things such red blood cell formation, and calcium metabolism.
