The organism causing: The disease is called Yersinia pestis and the disease is really called plague. Either bubonic plague (swollen and infected lymph node), septicemic plague (in the blood stream) or pneumonic plague (in the lung) or combination. The pneumonic form can spread from person to person.

Bubonic plague: That is the scientific name. It is one of three forms of plague that can be caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis. Other names include: Black Death, the Pestilence and the Great Mortality.
