Water: When you lay down at night your hands become exposed to a higher hydrostatic pressure than when you are standing or sitting in the daytime. This results in fluid building up in these tissues. If you elevate your hand on some pillows you may be able decrease the swelling in your hands. However, if you are experiencing stiffness and decreased range of motion, it may be advisable to see a hand dr.
