Open Communication: As a parent or legal guardian, you have the legal right (and responsibility) to inquire about the child's well-being. Make sure you find a psychiatrist who you can trust and has good communication skills. Building a relationship with all of your child's medical providers is imperative.

If you mean what : information a child psychiatrist, psychologist or developmental/behavioral pediatrician needs for accurate diagnosis in order to help a child, reveal all genetic, biological & environmental history so we can determine all factors that have contributed to the child's difficulties in development/academics, behavior & peer interaction. It's confidential except for what the law requires us to report.

? demand ?: According to state and federal laws, the custodial parents are have the right to relevant data on diagnosis and treatment of a minor. If the individual is not a parent or otherwise granted status under law, the information is private & disclosure illegal. Once the patient is no longer a minor, the patient determines who has access to the information unless the courts have authorized a custodian.
