Minimally: Ostochondromas can be painful. There is 1% or less chance of it turning into a cancer. In the rare event that it does, it's usually low grade and is unlikely to spread. Any growth of the osteochondroma may signify that it turned into a cancer and should be evaluated by an orthopedic oncologist. But usually growth is just from irritation of the soft tissues and fluid build up (bursa formation).
