Can a smoker be the recipient of a lung donation?

Yes: Many smokers have developed chronic obstructive lung disease as the cause of their lung failure. It would be important that the smoking has stopped.

Lung transplant: I would think only if the smoker had stopped smoking and will continue to stay away from cigarettes afterwards. This is a very hard habit to break but there are many new techniques and centers that can help patients achieve this important goal. It is life saving!
