No ideal weight: There is no ideal weight. Increased weight will negatively affect the recovery after a total knee replacement. Every surgeon has a "comfort level" in which they feel that the likelihood for success is higher. Talk to your orthopedist and they can advise you on how much weight you should lose to be a candidate for total knee replacement.

Knee replacement: Ideal body weight bmi under30 & above 20. No definite cutoff weight. Excess weight increases risk of infection, loosening, increased wear of the implant. Every pound above ideal body weight is 3-5x weight across the joint. On the other side, cachexia and low weight has wound healing & muscle atrophy problems.
