Is it common to have an allergic rash from salicylate ingredients in sunscreen?

Not common: But salicylates used as topical agents can cause an allergic contact dermatitis. As sunscreens typically contain a variety of agents that can trigger such reactions patch testing is the method used to determine the actual cause or causes.

Not likely: It is far more common to be sensitive to the preservatives or fragrances.
